Bookish Wonder Goth Review Policy

Review Policy

I am currently NOT accepting review requests of ANY kind. This includes those from traditional publishers, indie publishers and/or self-published authors. I'm currently committed to reading and reviewing the books on my owned TBR. There are... a lot 💀

I must therefore ask that you please DO NOT message me requesting that I review your book. Any and all messages like this will be ignored.

All my reviews are spoiler-free unless otherwise stated. I do review critically and like to give every book I read a fair chance! I will not trash any author or book on any of my sites.*

*Please see General Disclaimers for a note on 'problematic' authors and books.

Rating Policy

Criteria is seperated by a ';', meaning some or all of these things may be true. For example, even if a book wasn't the most well-written thing in the world, provided it still made my heart swell 10 sizes, crushed my soul and kept me thinking about it for days after finishing... I'll probably still give it 5 hearts. It's a bit of a balancing act between each level.

How I rate books is determined by the following factors:

🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
5/5
Absolutely amazing; beautifully written; made my heart swell 10 sizes; crushed my soul; could not put it down; technically flawless; extremely powerful; cannot stop thinking about it or recommending it to everyone I know.

🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
4/5
Really enjoyed this; had a great time with the story, characters and/or subject matter; well-written; some minor technical flaws, but overall I loved it.

🖤 🖤 🖤
3/5
I liked it; some notable technical flaws but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the book; interesting story, characters and/or subject matter; not very memorable; above average.

🖤 🖤
2/5
It was OK/didn't really like it; bland but not hateable; major technical issues that dampened my reading enjoyment; forgettable and/or dislikeable characters; story lacked depth and/or nuance; boring; below average.

🖤
1/5
Absolutely hated it; dreaded picking it up; hated the characters, the story, everything; painfully boring; has absolutely nothing to say; completely pointless; argument/message poorly conveyed; actively harmful; full of technical flaws that I could not overlook; poorly written.

Content Warnings

I will always endeavour to use content warnings where I feel it's appropriate to do so. The structure I follow for these is in accordance with guidance labels used by the BBC. If a book contains something in particular that I personally feel the guidance labels don't cover adequetely, I will say so.
